2022 Cantina Parusso Perarmando Barolo

A wine first made in 2017 by Marco and Tiziana Parusso as a tribute to their father, Armando, and to celebrate the 50th anniversary of his first vintage. To call this wine an entry level wine is a bit of a misnomer. The blend of Nebbiolo comes from Parusso’s single vineyard holdings of Mariondino (25%) in Castiglione Falletto, and Mosconi (25%) and Bussia (50%) in Monforte d’Alba. A marvellously hedonistic wine, totally enjoyable now and with many years ahead. 17+ by WALTER SPELLER in JANCIS ROBINSON: “Lustrous and just mid ruby with orange tinges. Intoxicating nose of cassis, passion fruit and Amarena cherry with balsamic notes of rosemary and wild mint. Succulent, suave fruit with notes of wild herbs and eucalyptus framed by bags of chewy tannins and with minerally, salty notes on the finish. Truly distinctive and very different from its peers. Needs plenty of age. Drink 2030-2042.” 92 in VINOUS by ANTONIO GALLONI: “…superb, vibrant and layered, with notable depth and structure. It very clearly benefits from the inclusion of lots that might have once gone into the single vineyard bottlings. Red-toned fruits, blood orange, sage, mint and cedar all lift from the glass. Vinified from 90% whole clusters, with the stems beautifully integrated.”
