2021 Jane Eyre Gevrey-Chambertin
Jane Eyre’s notes: Sourced from 2 vineyards, Combe du Dessus which is just opposite the Chateau of Chambertin and En Champs a little further along the slope opposite the 1er cru vineyard Champeaux. Vines are 35-55 years old. The fruit from Gevrey was pure and very healthy, even in this difficult vintage. This led to the decision to include 10% whole bunches to the fermentation. Once fermentation started the wine was lightly pumped over combined with gentle punch downs which were done by getting into the tanks and using our body weight to turn the cap over. 7 Barrels made. A great seducer! Packed with sweet, generous notes of blackberries, alongside a peppery edge. The palate has typical Gevrey cherry flavours finishing with fine, silky tannins. The bright fruit characters in this wine make it too easy to drink in its youth. Try to wait another 3-4 years. Jancis Robinson 16.5+/20. CASE of 6.
